Description

Create restaurant-quality steamed salmon in your own kitchen with this foolproof recipe. This method delivers tender, flaky fish that’s perfectly cooked every time, using simple ingredients and precise timing.

This classic steamed salmon recipe combines traditional techniques with modern simplicity. Essentially, you’ll create a flavorful dish that’s both healthy and elegant, perfect for both weeknight dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 26 ounce salmon filets (about 1-inch thick)
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 23 cups water
  • 2 garlic cloves, grated
  • ½ lemon, thinly sliced
  • 45 sprigs of fresh dill
  • Lemon wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steaming Setup: Fill your pot with water until it just reaches the bottom of the steamer. Remove the steamer and set aside.
  2. Season the Water: Add grated garlic, lemon slices, and fresh dill sprigs to the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, consequently reducing to low heat.
  3. Prepare the Salmon: Season filets with salt and black pepper. Primarily focus on even distribution of seasonings.
  4. Position the Fish: Spray the steamer with non-stick oil and place salmon filets inside. Notably, ensure water doesn’t touch the fish.
  5. Steam the Salmon: Cover with a tight-fitting lid and maintain a strong simmer. Steam for 5 minutes initially.
  6. Check for Doneness: Using a sharp knife, check the thickest part of the fish. It should be opaque outside and slightly translucent in the center.

Notes

– The ideal internal temperature should read between 120°F and 125°F for medium-rare
– For medium to well-done, aim for 125°F to 140°F
– Ultimately, avoid temperatures above 140°F to prevent dryness
