Description

Want to create a mouthwatering seafood dish? This New Orleans-inspired smoked shrimp recipe blends butter, seasonings, and smoke that delivers an exceptional taste. You’ll love serving this at casual dinners and special occasions.

Our butter-based smoked shrimp recipe takes its cues from classic New Orleans BBQ shrimp. The dish features a rich blend of melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and carefully chosen seasonings. Smoke adds depth while the shrimp stays perfectly juicy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh Gulf shrimp (1624 count).
  • 1/2 pound salted butter.
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce.
  • 1 lemon, quartered.
  • 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley, chopped.
  • Your favorite BBQ seasoning blend.
  • French bread to serve.

Instructions

  1. Set your smoker’s temperature to 250°F and add hickory wood chunks.
  2. Thaw frozen shrimp completely. Peel and devein them while keeping the tails on.
  3. Stir the butter occasionally as it melts in a microwave-safe container.
  4. Mix the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, juice from half the lemon, and chopped parsley in a bowl.
  5. Apply a generous coating of BBQ rub on both sides of the shrimp.
  6. Add the seasoned shrimp to an aluminum pan and pour the butter mixture over them. The liquid should reach halfway up the shrimp.
  7. Place the pan in your preheated smoker and keep the temperature steady.
  8. Give the shrimp a gentle stir after 10-15 minutes. They should look slightly translucent.
  9. Let them smoke another 10-15 minutes until they turn pink and cook through.

Notes

– Large or jumbo shrimp work best and won’t overcook easily.
– Dip crusty French bread in the delicious butter sauce.
– Keep an eye on the shrimp after 20 minutes.
– Use aluminum foil with small holes if shrimp slip through the grates.
