Description
Discover the art of creating restaurant-quality grilled mussels with this flavorful recipe that combines fresh seafood with aromatic herbs and wine.
This classic grilled mussels recipe features tender shellfish cooked in a savory white wine sauce with garlic and herbs. The high heat of grilling leaves mussels particularly plump, making it one of the easiest ways to cook them.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds fresh mussels, cleaned and debearded
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 small shallot, minced
- Fresh thyme sprigs
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Crusty bread for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat (400-475°F).
- Clean the Mussels: Discard any mussels that don’t close tightly when tapped. Remove beards and scrub shells under cold water.
- Create the Sauce: In a grill-safe pan, melt butter and sauté shallots for 3-4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Add Aromatics: Pour in white wine, add thyme sprigs, and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Mussels: Place mussels in the pan and cover with a lid. Grill for 6-8 minutes or until all mussels open.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from heat, discard any unopened mussels, and garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
- For optimal results, use fresh mussels within 24 hours of purchase.
- Discard any mussels that remain closed after cooking.
- Consider using a cast iron skillet for even heat distribution.
- The sauce can be enhanced with additional butter for richness.
