Ingredients
- 8–10 fish fingers.
- 500g floury potatoes.
- 400g tin baked beans.
- 100g sharp cheddar cheese.
- 50g butter.
- 2 tablespoons milk.
- 100g onion.
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil.
- 125ml vegetable stock.
- ½ teaspoon black pepper.
Instructions
- Set your oven to 220°C/190°C Fan/Gas Mark 7. Cook the fish fingers until they turn golden and crispy according to package instructions.
- The mashed potatoes need preparation while your fish fingers cook:
- Peel and cube potatoes
- Boil in salted water for about 20 minutes until tender
- Mash with butter, milk, and half the cheese
- Take a pan, heat oil and cook sliced onions until soft. Add the baked beans and heat them gently.
- Time to put it all together:
- Spread the bean mixture in an ovenproof dish
- Cut cooked fish fingers into chunks and layer them on top
- Add your cheesy mashed potatoes as a cover
- Top it off with the remaining cheese
- Pop it under a preheated grill until it turns golden and starts bubbling.

You can prepare this casserole up to 24 hours ahead – just cover and keep it in the fridge until needed.
