  • 2.53 pounds mussels (2030 pieces).
  • 1 head garlic, minced.
  • 100 grams butter, softened.
  • 5 tablespoons breadcrumbs.
  • ½ cup milk.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt.
  • 1 block (165 grams) quick-melt cheese.

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Heat your oven to 355°F/180°C. Line your baking tray with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Cook the Mussels:
    • Place cleaned mussels in a large pot.
    • Add ¼ cup water.
    • Cover and cook over medium-low heat until shells open.
    • Let cool slightly and remove the extra shell.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
    • Add minced garlic and cook until tender.
    • Stir in breadcrumbs and cook for one minute.
    • Pour in milk and stir continuously until thickened.
    • Season with salt
  4. Assemble and Bake:
    • Arrange opened mussels on the prepared baking tray.
    • Fill each shell with the garlic-butter sauce.
    • Top generously with grated cheese.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese melts and browns slightly.

Notes

– Select mussels that are tightly closed and feel heavy for their size.
– Important: Serve mussels immediately after preparation to prevent spoilage.
